To achieve the Diploma of Counselling a total of 17 units of competency must be completed; thirteen (13) core units of competency and four (4) electives.
After achieving this qualification, you may choose to pursue one of the following Degrees:
- Bachelor of Counselling
- Graduate Diploma of Counselling
- Graduate Certificate of Counselling
To gain entry into CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling it is recommended that candidates have sufficient relevant work experience to indicate likely success at this level of qualification in a job role involving:
- The self-directed application of knowledge with substantial depth in some areas
- The exercise of independent judgement and decision-making
- The application of relevant technical and other skills.
Student Selection Process
Kirana’s student selection process is designed to ensure that you are enrolled in the qualification that best meets your needs.
Kirana’s selection criteria will take into account various factors when deciding upon which students will be offered places in the program including;
- The students’ needs and desired outcomes
- The ability and commitment of the students to complete the course;
- Eligibility requirements listed in the applicable National Training Package;
- Students existing ability in the ACSF core skills, (learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy)
Students not meeting these requirements will be directed to more suitable qualifications or skill development programs.

The Australian Government regularly updates it’s qualifications to ensure that you can gain the skills and knowledge currently needed by Australian industries. A new up-to-date qualification has recently been released to replace this qualification and we are busy developing the new qualification to offer to our students. To ensure that you are receiving the most current training, Kirana Colleges will offer to transfer your enrolment into the new qualification at no further cost to you. Please note that the Australian Government requires that all students enrolled in this qualification must have either completed this qualification or transferred to the new qualification by 7/06/2017.
